Students at MDE Are Spreading the Net!

On Tuesday, February 10, students and staff of Macdonald Drive Elementary held "Hat Day"! Everyone was encouraged to pick out their favourite hat to wear to school and to bring in a donation to support "Spread The Net" - a program that aims to fight malaria by providing bed nets to families in Africa. Getting involved in this initiative was spearheaded by Grade 1 student Declan Walsh. After hearing Rick Mercer speak about this program, he approached our Principal, Ms. Emberley, and proposed that the students here get involved. Since the Fall, funds from one week of recycling each month is collected in aid of Spread The Net. This monthly fundraising effort plus the recent Hat Day fundraiser has collected over $1000 so far! We are very proud of our Mighty Mites and their interest and dedication to helping others around the world.
